In September and October of 2009, Asia Pacific was struck by a series of natural disasters. Samoa was hit with an earthquake followed by a tsunami. Indonesia suffered two earthquakes near Padang. Typhoons Ketsana and Parma affected the Philippines and Vietnam. These situations require coordinated response efforts to assist in the most timely and effective manner. Global Hand has information and partnership opportunities for those wanting to engage.

  United Nations website containing detailed maps of the affected regions in Asia Pacific.
• Sphere Humanitarian Charter and Minimum Standards in Disaster Response
  The Sphere Project sets out minimum standards for four sectors: water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion; food security; nutrition and food aid; and, settlement and non-food items and health services. The cornerstone of the handbook is the Humanitarian Charter which describes the rights of people affected by disasters.
• WEF/OCHA Guiding Principles for Public-Private Collaboration for Humanitarian Action
  The World Economic Forum (WEF) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) have devised this set of principles to guide public-private collaboration for humanitarian action (disaster response).
