American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee

Unverified non-profit organisation

The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) has, since 1914, been providing aid to Jewish communities in Israel, the former Soviet Union, and Argentina, as well as small groups of Jews scattered around the world in poverty, targeted by anti-Semitism, or caught in war or natural disasters. JDC provides funding for Jewish community centers, group homes for the elderly, and day care facilities. Medicines, equipment, and supplies are distributed to hospitals, clinics, and local health care institutions. JDC also sponsors family retreats, summer camps, after school programs, and early childhood services initiatives.

Along with career counseling and help in job placement, employment and business development centers established by JDC offer training in marketable skills and resume writing to Jews from disadvantaged circumstances and backgrounds. JDC is also working to create and run training programs for senior professionals and policymakers in the public and non-profit sector. These programs are aimed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Israel’s social service infrastructure which can lead to an improved quality of life for Israelis. Furthermore JDC offers non-sectarian aid to non-Jews during times of crisis including natural disasters, war, and famine.
