Project to Promote Fair Trade in India

Fair Trade Forum – India (FTF-I) in partnership with HIVOS, IRFT & Shop for Change has launched Pro-Sustain, a project to promote Fair Trade & Sustainable Consumption in India.

The launch took place at the India International Center on June 30th, 2010.

The Pro-Sustain project, funded by the European Commission, is to contribute to building environmentally sustainable production and consumption practices that help reduce poverty amongst poor farmers and handicraft producers in India.

The specific objective of the Pro-Sustain project is to create a consumer market for fair trade products in India that measurably contributes to the improvement of rural livelihoods and provides farmers and artisans with the resources necessary to follow environmentally sustainable production practices. It will increase the number of fair trade product producers now accessing and benefiting from Indian fair trade markets from 90,000 to 180,000 and will increase the value of fair trade sales in India from Euro 3.62 million (in 2008) to 10 million (in 2012).
