Organisation pour la Solidarité et le Développement

Unverified non-profit organisation

Organisation pour la Solidarité et le Développement (OSD) is a local NGO working in Burundi and registered by the Government of Burundi under a non-profit association status (See registration certificates attached).

OSD started in 2008 as a group of volunteers (Medical Doctors, Nurses, Medical Students, Former parliamentarians, and others members of the community) sharing the commitment to work for the welfare of poor and marginalized people in Burundi. At the beginning it brought together these volunteers from various organizations in collecting food and clothes for poor patients and detainees.

On 14th November 2012, the members of OSD group, named at that time ‘’Groupe pour la Solidarité et le Déveleoppement’’ decided to turn it to a local NGO (OSD) to serve more people in need of them in Burundi.

It has been registered for the first time as an NGO in Burundi at Bujumbura Notary Office on 18th January 2013. The Burundian Ministry of Home Affairs recognized OSD as a non-profit organization on 3rd June 2013 and registered it by the Ministerial Ordinance Nr. 530/780.
The large program we have been involved in is the program of collecting clothes in Burundi to be given to poor patients in hospitals. We have also provided food to these patients in need. This program has reached over 1200 patients.

We have also sent volunteers to others organizations in Burundi like students associations and women local groups to train them in the fields of development, small farming and agriculture. This program is addresses to 200 women.

We are also undertaking trainings on human rights and peace consolidation in partnership with the youth movement of the International Physicians for the prevention of Nuclear War (The Burundian Chapter).

Other activities include support to young girls who abandoned school to help them to attend again classes.

The ambitious program we are running is to get one or two well equipped medical centers in the province of Bujumbura (Rural Bujumbura) to help people there who are facing problems of lack of good medical care due to the destruction of medical buildings and supplies during the civil war which lasted 12 years from 1993 to 2015. This program will support over 200.000 people living in Mutimbuzi commune where there is no any hospital or clinic with a doctor.
