ABN Amro India provides credit to 16 microfinance institutions in India

In August 2003, ABN AMRO India started a program to provide funding to 16 microfinance institutions in India.

These microfinance institutions in turn supply credit to rural lending groups, composed of women considered to be the poorest of the poor. The women themselves decide who qualify for loans. By October 2005 the total amount involved was US$ 14 million, which had been distributed through the 16 microfinance institutions to over 160,000 borrowers.
