Financial inclusion improves Sanitation and Health (FINISH)

FINISH is an action research project set up by UNU-MERIT a research and training centre of the United Nations University in Holland, working in close collaboration with the University of Maastricht.

The project involves a combination of appropriate technology, financing and incentive schemes to ensure adequate investment in and usage of sanitation facilities in India.

The project draws together a multi-disciplinary, multi-stakeholder research team with expertise in health sciences, sanitary engineering and technology, economics and microfinance.

While the academic validation will be done by the UNU-MERIT research conglomeration, the implementation will be done by an intertwined public private partnership initiative involving TATA-AIG, the micro-credit insurance company, Micro Finance Institutions (MFIs) such as BISWA in India, WASTE, a Dutch NGO with sanitation expertise and banks such as SNS Reaal.

The project has great relevance for development such as health promotion amongst the poor, sanitation health interaction improvement and financial inclusion in sanitation improvement .
