Kiva connects donors to individual entrepreneurs or groups in the developing world, through the provision of micro-loans. Micro-credit empowers clients to lift themselves out of poverty through developing responsible business patterns and training. Kiva partners with existing micro-finance institutions around the world to locate individuals in impoverished communities with small businesses. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), donors receive email updates from the sponsored business as the money is repaid. Kiva has a repayment rate of 98.96%.
