The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is the world’s largest humanitarian organisation, providing assistance without discrimination as to nationality, race, relious beliefs, class or political opinions. The Guatemalan Red Cross Society redefined its priorities at the end of the civil war, and now focuses on primary health care to improve the general health of the population and on strengthening its own capability. Programmes include the provision of health service to communities without other access to health care, disaster preparedness, water and sanitation, food security and economic empowerment.
