The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is an international aid agency that works with communities and governments in 157 countries for the survival, development and protection of children worldwide. In Uzbekistan, UNICEF’s activities include designing health-care initiatives to improve ante-natal care, prevent mother-to-child HIV transmission, provide vaccinations, and facilitate better manage of childhood illness; sponsoring organised neighbourhood play and learning activities; and working to improve access to safe water and proper sanitation.
