The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is an international aid agency that works with communities and governments in 157 countries for the survival, development and protection of children worldwide. UNICEF activities in Sri Lanka include reintegrating child soldiers back into society, supporting a programme of routine immunizations, improving health-care services, and providing better nutrition for women and children. Currently, UNICEF is supporting large-scale rebuilding and recovery efforts after the December 2004 tsunami.
