The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) International is an NGO founded by the Seventh Day Adventist Church in 1984. It was created for the specific purposes of individual and community development, and disaster relief. ADRA now works in 120 countries world-wide, providing disaster relief and assistance to people in need. ADRA began working in Nicaragua in 1988, and currently runs a major agricultural programme which has created more than 800 full-time jobs, principally for women with children. ADRA also runs a large health programme aimed at improving the infant mortality rate and maternal health.
