Child Soldiers International

Unverified non-profit organisation

Child Soldiers International, formerly The Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers (CSUCS), is a UK-based non-governmental organization that was formed to prevent the recruitment and exploitation of children in warfare and to ensure their reintegration into larger society by means of research, advocacy, and capacity building.

The primary function of CSUCS is to act as an informational resource centre for related NGOs, child advocacy organizations, and international legislative bodies. It seeks to end the military recruitment and the use in hostilities, in any capacity, of any person under the age of 18 by state armed forces or non-state armed groups.

Child Soldiers International is an international human rights research and advocacy organisation. It works to end the military recruitment of under-18s globally and to prevent their use in armed conflict wherever it occurs. It does this through global monitoring, in depth work on selected countries, and research and analysis on key thematic issues relating to child soldiers.

It advocates for the release of unlawfully recruited children, promote their successful reintegration into civilian life, and call for accountability for those who unlawfully recruit or use them. It also encourages debate on psychosocial issues in the area of children and armed conflict by fostering dialogue between experts.

Where possible it works in partnership with local NGOs in target countries to design and implement projects. It seeks to engage governments in a dialogue in these countries, and conduct international advocacy to bring about change.
