Wasted computers

Every year in the UK over 3 million fully functioning computers are thrown out and most of them end up in landfill sites, and it is estimated that over 50 million are dumped throughout the world. But even today there are still 40% of UK households that do not have a computer, which means that children from these families are severely disadvantaged in terms of their education and future career potential (as previous generations were by the lack of books). The majority of elderly and disabled people do not have a computer, which could significantly increase their quality of life, and, last but by no means least, and over 90% of children in developing countries have no access to computers at all.
