In achieving this ROAD has established strong governance structures, relevant policies and systems necessary for effectiveness and efficiency in delivery of service to the needy communities.
ROAD has a good track record in its previous grants of different sizes it has managed from different institutions of both UN agencies and International NGOs with a deep root within the communities in the areas of our operation. As a local NGOs ROAD has more advantage of access into culturally and security sensitive areas compared to other international NGOs in the post conflict South Sudan.

The Republic of South Sudan became the world’s youngest country on 9 July 2011, following the conclusion of the CPA and a partition with its northern neighbour, Sudan. The fledgling country has, since its birth, known relatively little peace, security and stability. In the Republic of South Sudan (RSS), the majority of adults and children have not had the opportunity to attend school due to decades of civil war. The situation is further compounded by the recent political in-fighting amongst the ruling SPLM which has fuelled tensions and conflict further worsening the new country Education indicators.

The education indicators of South Sudan remains among the worst in the world, despite increases in school enrolment over the past few years. Unicef estimates that more than one (1) million primary school aged children, mostly from rural areas, are not in school. Currently High dropout rates, poor school attendance and high gender, geographic and wealth disparities pose enormous challenges to education in South Sudan.

It is further estimated the national literacy rate is 27% and 70 per cent (70%) of children aged 6–17 years (of school going age) are out of school or have never set foot in a classroom. Surprisingly, the completion rate in primary schools is less than 10 per cent (10%) and gender equality stands at 33 per cent (33%) of girls are in schools.
Worthy noting, only 13% of primary schools offer the full primary cycle, from grade 1 to 8. Although there are geographical disparities on average the primary school classroom ratio is 1: 125 pupils per classroom.

These indicators have further been compounded by the recent conflicts that have left more than 2.5 Million people displaced, majority being women and children (of school going age). It is estimated that over 400,000 children (previously attending school) have been forced out of school by conflict, 70% of schools in the three conflict affected states have been rendered non functional.
Situational result of conflict most of the displaced population are either living as refugees in the neighboring countries or internally displaced camps. As peace is slowly returning after signing of fragile August 2015 Peace agreement, the returnees are faced with settlement challenges as results of destroyed livelihoods, hunger and rehabilitation of schools destroyed during recent years of conflict
