Tshepong Hope Centre is situated in Makhaloaneng Village in Qwa-Qwa, with a second centre at Lefika in Qwa-Qwa, in the Maluti Mountains in the Free State province of South Africa.
This is one of the most impoverished areas in South Africa and it is the children who suffer most.
Tshepong Hope Centre is registered as a Non-profit organization and Drop in Centre with the Department of Social Development in terms of the Children’s Act.
Services
The focus of a Drop-In Centre has as it’s focus Prevention and Early Intervention Services, mainly deals with children referred to the Centre by school principals and governing bodies, community workers, community leaders and social service professionals.
The Centre provides the following services to children between the ages of 0 and 18 years referred to the centre:
1. Provision of food
2. School attendance support
3. Assistance with personal hygiene
4. Laundry services
5. Guidance, counselling and psychosocial support with the assistance of the Department of Social Development and designated child protection agencies.
6. Educational programmes
7. Recreation
8. Community services
9. School holiday programmes
10. Primary health care in collaboration with the local health clinic
11. Reporting and referral of children to social workers or social service professionals
12. Promotion of family preservation and reunification through work in the community
13. Computer literacy
14. Outreach services, and
15. Prevention and early intervention
