For years, persons with Cerebral Palsy (PWCP) in Bundibugyo have been marginalized both in their communities and in the disability movement, partially due to limited awareness on Cerebral Palsy (CP) as a disability with its own causes and effects. Because PWCP manifest many different forms of functional limitations (e.g., challenges related to walking and/or speech), and feeding by themselves they tend to be categorized under other disabilities.
BAPCP MAJOR OBJECTIVES
a) To enhance the lives and well-being of people with Cerebral Palsy in Bundibugyo and beyond.
b) To promote the interests of people with Cerebral Palsy through individual and collective advocacy.
c) To provide such physical, social, emotional, educational and recreational activities and endeavours which enhance the lives and well-being of people with Cerebral Palsy in Bundibugyo District.
d) To encourage and support study and research programmes undertaken to improve the lives of people with Cerebral Palsy.
e) To support and promote the well-being of families of people with Cerebral Palsy, in their support of the person with Cerebral Palsy.
f) To take all necessary steps to promote the rehabilitation of Uganda’s street children, including provision of hostels for the homeless and, wherever possible, to work towards re-uniting children with their families.
To work positively with health and Education professionals, organizations and government to get the best outcomes for people with cerebral palsy.
