Livelihood Development for Human Rights Promotion-Sierra Leone is an indigenous local voluntary organization registered with the Ministry of Social Welfare Gender and Children’s Affairs and Waterloo Rural District Council with a Vision to lead communities where women, men and children can live, work and play to protect the rights of all.
Its mission is to engage communities in sustainable development initiatives through livelihood sustenance, human rights promotion intervention, gender equality and capacity building.
Its current operational areas are western rural and urban districts including Rogbangba, quarry-by kissy terminal, Hastings and consider lane communities.
Its target beneficiaries are: women victims/survivors of domestic violence, vulnerable children and youths.
Its approach: It works to facilitate a holistic intervention and we do this through five (5) THEMATIC areas as shown below:
PREVENTION & EDUCATION
Engaging perpetrators /potential perpetrators of domestic violence as partners to serve as eye-openers on the negative effect of violence against women (VAW); traditional leaders, Boys & Girls in educational institutions, local authorities, women , Protecting children from all forms of abuse etc
PROTECTION/ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT
Facilitate access to and control over socio-economic resources and inclusive decision making in undeserved and hard to reach communities.
RESPONSE & MAXIMIZE ATTENTION
Facilitate access to free psychosocial First Aid (PFA) counseling, Respite support service for victims/survivors of domestic violence and free medical services etc.
ADVOCACY and POLICY INFLUENCING
Facilitate democratic & constructive social change movement and Lobby for effective Law enforcement and service delivery to clients.
EMERGING ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES
Facilitate women and youths user-friendly environment activities. Establish Women& youths environmental Welfare committees-(W&YEWIC) (18-40years) on the “PUSH” to initiate environmental user-friendly dialogue among women and youths on environmental issues.
