Vision for the Aged Uganda is the first older persons development non partisan, non religious, non governmental organization that was founded by a group of 12 Visionary older persons. It was first registered as a Community Based organization (CBO) in 2007 later in September 2008 It got its first official registration as Non Governmental Organization under registration number 7272 and certificate number S.5914/7792. Its main purpose is to spearhead development activities of older persons aged 60 years + and grand vulnerable children under their care, create awareness through dialogue about the need to recognize older persons and children under their care as vulnerable groups for special attention by leaders, advocating and lobbying from Government for equal rights and social justice, favorable policies and conducive environment for older persons development activities.
Mission
To achieve long lasting improvements in the quality of life of all older persons and children under their care by enabling the marginalized families and communities to realize their rights, meet their basic needs and increase their abilities to participate in and benefit from their societies.
Challenges facing older persons
• Limited social support no incomes to support families
• Poor health
• Negative Attitude towards older persons by Health workers
• Discrimination in Government programmes
• Lack of income generating activities
• Food insecurity at household levels
• Burden of orphans
• No payment to those who served in parastatal bodies e.g UCI tororo
• Land grabbing
