Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross are a worldwide religious community of the Catholic Church. They allow themselves to be shaped by their charism and engage in social, educational and pastoral tasks for the benefit of the people.
The motto of the Institute is the need of the time is the will of God. They belong to the Franciscan order and are involved in teaching, health, socio-pastoral and formation ministries.
In Uganda the mission was started in the year 1993 with four Sisters from India. As first four girls joined them in the year 1994 and became sisters. By now there are 6 communities – 5 in Uganda and 1 in Kenya. There are 75 sisters and 17 young women who are in the formation to be sisters. One third of the members are young sisters who are undergoing professional training for the apostolate.
