Kolotan

Unverified non-profit organisation

Kolotan is a charitable NGO Trust at Vill- Taraberia, PO- Padmalavpur, PS- Amdanga Dist- North 24 pgs, West Bengal in India. Kolotan works in the fields of education, social welfare, and culture. The Trust runs a rural school where they follow the philosophy of RabindraNath Tagore and Montessori. The mode of education is related to practical life and imparts joyous learning. Pupils are introduces to the rich biodiversity thus making them environment friendly from a tender age. The aim is at nurturing an empathetic, socially responsible, and humanitarian generation.

‘Kolotan’ as a school was housed in a rented local shelter. However, with more and more parents from the local community taking interest in the non-conventional educational approach, more and more children got enrolled with the school. It has become imperative that school should be run at their own building so that the children can have a physical and emotional connect with the environment.

This not only helps to create a sustainable and eco-friendly school but also empowers the community by providing opportunities for skill development and economic growth. The school will focus on up scaling existing craft forms such as embroidery making, quilt making, and saree weaving, providing a platform for the women in the community to grow and develop their skills.
