Karunakarya helps slum dwellers of Chennai (formerly Madras) to integrate into society — teach slum children to develop self-confidence and to recognize their rights as children; educate parents on the importance of hygiene, nutrition and clean drinking water; and provide counseling support for women including training on income generation / micro enterprise activities. Karunakarya also run a transit school enabling children to secure admission to state run schools and young people to acquire professional training. Karunakarya supports the poorest of the poor, in the slums, with medical aid and clothing.
