Central Asia Institute
Unverified non-profit organisation
Central Asia Institute (CAI) is a registered non-profit organization, founded in 1996, with IRS registration number is 51-0376237. CAI was established with funds provided by Dr. Jean Hoerni, a Swiss physicist, a Silicon valley microchip industry pioneer.
CAI began by focussing its efforts on one geographic region, Pakistan’s Karakoram Mountains, in order to gain experience in establishing community-based projects. The organisation has now expanded its efforts into other regions in Pakistan and in Afghanistan and Tajikistan.
By 2009, CAI had successfully established 130 schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan, which provide (or have provided) education to over 51,000 students, with an emphasis on girls’ education. Current projects focus on school building, scholarships, teachers, public health, women’s vocational centers and literacy centers, as global outreach.
