Based in Philadelphia, Books Through Bars works to empower prisoners through the provision of reading materials to support their self-education. Each month, many packages are sent directly to prisoners, while boxes of books are also provided to prison libraries. The organisation’s other activities include a national poster project (to inform library patrons about prison education issues), youth workshops and the development of multimedia resources on prison education.
