Set up in 1945, Christian Aid is an agency of the churches in the UK and Ireland that works wherever the need is greatest, irrespective of religion and nationality. It supports local partner organisations in providing famine and disaster relief, and refugee services. Christian Aid funds projects in some of the world’s poorest countries, helping people to improve their own lives and to tackle the causes of poverty and injustice. Christian Aid does not work with political groups. In 2001-02 it provided grants of £40m.
