The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) is a service enterprise for development cooperation with worldwide operations. Owned by the Federal Republic of Germany, the organisation operates as a private-sector enterprise with a development-policy mandate to make sustainable improvements to the living conditions of people in partner countries, and to conserve the natural resource base on which life depends. GTZ also supports development and reform processes on behalf of German ministries, partner-country governments and international organisations and institutions, such as the EU, UN and World Bank. It works on a public-benefit basis. GTZ’s consultancy services span a wide range of activity areas, from economic development and employment promotion, through health and basic education to environmental protection, resource conservation and regional rural development. GTZ also responds to emergency with emergency aid and refugee programmes.
