Information from the Customs and Excise Department of Botswana

This page www.gov.bw/government target provides information on the customs and excise department of Botswana. They have informed us that a guide relating to the importation of humanitarian goods in Botswana is not available. Although the rebate item that was used for importing donated clothing tax-free has expired, it is still possible to import goods tax-free. The organisation sending the aid must specify a welfare organisation in Botswana to which they would like to donate such goods. Botswana Government would then source permission from the other Southern African Customs Union member states to exempt customs duties payable on the consignment. Once permission has been sought the receiving welfare organisation will then be free from payment of any duties. Contact the Customs and Excise department for further clarification.
