Green Works: recycling office furniture
Green Works, a social enterprise based in the UK, collects unwanted office furniture from big companies like Marks & Spencer and recycles it to sell at a discount from one of six London warehouses to schools, colleges, charities, housing associations and small businesses.
The firm recently won a Queen’s Award for its sustainable business plan. “I’m here to stop furniture filling up landfill, not to boost profits so I can holiday in Barbados,” says Mr Crooks, the founder.
Green Works employs former prisoners, homeless people and others from marginalised communities, but needs to operate in the same way as a conventional business in order not to make a loss.
