The Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement is a self-governance movement working in ten thousand villages with nearly four million people across Sri Lanka. It works to fulfill human needs such as clean and healthy environment, water, clothing, food, health care, housing, energy, education and spiritual and cultural needs. Sarvodaya is divided into a number of legally independent sub units namely Village Development Programs, Sarvodaya Legal Services Movement, Human Rights, Conflict Resolution, Legal Education, Peace Education and Peace Work, Sarvodaya Women’s Movement Ltd, and Sarvodaya Enterprises Development Services Bank. Sarvodaya’s organization projects include development education institutes, micro-credit services, and welfare societies for orphans, underage mothers and elders. It also provides humanitarian response in disaster struck areas and operates programmes for those with disabilities.
