Caritas Internationalis - Dominican Republic
Unverified non-profit organisation
Caritas Internationalis is a confederation of 162 Catholic relief, development and social service organisations working to build a better world, especially for the poor and oppressed in over 200 countries and territories.
Caritas Dominican Republic carries out development work in the broad fields of education, health, sanitation, access to clean water, and the environment. Specific activities include providing humanitarian assistance during emergencies. In 2007, for example, Caritas Dominican Republic assisted 25,000 people affected by Hurricane Noel, providing water and sanitation kits, reconstructing houses and schools, building latrines, training 300 communities in disaster preparedness, distributing school starter packs and rehabilitating agriculture. Caritas Dominican Republic also works closely with migrants, providing social services for the many Haitians who have crossed the border and advocating for solutions to the problems created by large-scale migration.
