USAID is an independent agency that supports long-term economic and social development. USAID has provided about 300 million US dollars in programs that assist the development of the country’s economic sector, education and healthcare systems, and democratic institutions. The agency aims to improve laws and services, create job, support economic growth (including agricultural productivity), health, education, political reform, democratic institutions, and food security and better manage available resources. USAID programs in Tajikistan are implemented through contracts and grants by local and international organizations, including U.N. agencies, for profit companies, and non-governmental organizations.
