Set-up in 1963, WFP is the United Nations front line agency in the fight against global hunger. WFP uses its food to: meet emergency needs and support economic and social development, it works in countires at the request of the local government. WFP sends specialised assessment teams into problem areas, launches international appeals and also provides the logistics support necessary to get food aid to the right people at the right time and in the right place. In 2004, WFP fed 113 million people in 80 countries, including most of the world’s refugees and internally displaced people.
