The SPF’s objective is to contribute to the welfare of humankind and the sound development of the international community, thus world peace. They offer grants for Private non-profit organisations and institutions of higher education and related organisations are eligible. Nationality is not a factor. The SPF sets priorities and gives precedence to providing forward-looking and flexible support for projects addressing problems in terms of what the world needs now in the fields of international understanding, exchange, and cooperation. Operational Guidelines for the Third Midterm Program, 2000-2005 sets forth more detailed criteria (see website). There is no prescribed application form or format. The project’s aims, expected outcome, beneficiaries, method of implementation, schedule, budget, and other relevant information should be presented concisely on three or four A4 pages. Applications submitted should be in Japanese or English and should be mailed (see website for more details).
