Cambodian Mine Action Centre
Unverified non-profit organisation
The Cambodian Mine Action Centre (CMAC) was established in 1993. The organisation has a humanitarian mandate to clear land for resettlement of internally displaced people, agriculture, community development and reconstruction of the national infrastructure. CMAC has four main functional areas: mine awareness, mine verification, mine/uxo (Unexploded Ordinance), clearance and training. CMAC runs mobile mine awareness teams who conduct presentations about minefield risks. The Mine Verification project includes collecting and analysing information on the minefields, and mapping (marking) the minefield perimeters and surrounding villages. CMAC also runs mobile demining platoons working around the country. The training centre provides training in mine risk reduction, courses in mine neutralisation, field management, first aid, lifesaving and trauma management and other mine-related issues. CMAC has been able to free hazardous areas of mines and UXO totaling to more than 106 square kilometres from 1993 to May, 2003.
