Safe Horizon (Anti-Trafficking Program)

Unverified non-profit organisation

Safe Horizon is the largest victims’ services agency in the United States, with 57 locations serving more than 250,000 children, adults, and families affected by crime (domestic violence, rape, sexual assault), abuse (child abuse etc.) and human trafficking throughout New York City each year.

In December 2001, Safe Horizon established the Anti-Trafficking Program to provide social and legal services to survivors of human trafficking. Through intensive case management, victims receive social and legal services as well as referrals for other support. A range of educational and technical assistance, training, and advocacy are also offered in the hope that they may reduce and ultimately end human trafficking.

Specifically, Safe Horizon’s Anti-Trafficking Program seeks to provide:
- Culturally and linguistically sensitive services
- Shelter and housing referrals
- Linkages to other services
- Advocacy through the criminal justice system
- Counselling and support groups
- Assistance with meeting material needs
- Facilitation of access to public benefits
- Legal assistance

The Anti-Trafficking Program also offers trainings, presentations, case consultation, technical assistance and advocacy. The Anti-Trafficking Program values partnerships with other organizations tackling human trafficking issues, and also takes a leadership role in building coalitions among advocates across the country. The Anti-Trafficking Program is a co-founder of the Freedom Network (USA), the Freedom Network (USA) Training Institute, and the New York Anti-Trafficking Network.

Since its founding, the Anti-Trafficking Program has helped in over 360 cases within and outside the New York metropolitan area, giving human trafficking survivors from more than 60 countries the means to truly escape modern-day slavery.
